Our Story

Mission

Architectural professionals who create high performance learning places and growing spaces.

We deliver environmentally sustainable architecture on time and within budget, meeting high performance goals for program, function, maintainability and social responsibility with unequalled client service.

We Promise

…to deliver design that meets client needs, is based on proven sustainable and logical architectural concepts, and reflects latest educational trends.
…to deliver accurate and reliable construction documents that reduce questions, time and costs in the field.

What Differentiates Emc2

Emc2 Architects deliver exceptional services under the leadership of Project Managers who are Principals of the firm.

Project teams are committed to projects from early programming and design, and from construction through warranty, which results in better project construction quality because design planning and intent is carried through all phases of construction.

Emc2 projects are delivered using Revit, the industry’s most current Building Information Modeling software. All Emc2 designers and technicians are skilled in Revit, which streamlines design and construction document preparation. Two employees are Revit 2012 Certified Associates.

What we think about design

Philosophy
1. The facility must function well for the intended use.
2. The facility must be easily maintained relative to selected architectural finishes, MPE systems and grounds.
3. The facility should have a pleasing appearance that is appropriate with the project budget.
4. Design is a collaborative process that requires input and involvement of all stakeholders from first inception to final celebration.

High Performance
Energy efficiency and sustainability are part of all design strategies and decisions from first meeting until project completion. Typically, we use U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) checklists as we develop the program to identify areas where the LEED point system will bring certification, even if clients decide not to pursue certification to improve each project’s environmental footprint.

Many of our educational projects have been School Facilities Board (SFB)-funded, and have not included district-wide energy savings plans because of cost limitations and paybacks. We have completed several master plans for clients, and have addressed energy strategies that clients have wanted to address, including lighting design and central plant considerations (which may not meet SFB payback requirements). With recent legislative trends, we foresee a more aggressive approach to energy use, and work with clients to identify additional sources of funds, latest technology available, working proactively with users, and integrating specific district preferences. Operability and maintainability of systems are also some critical issues to address. Typical energy-saving practices for all projects include:
• Chilled water central plants whenever the client’s budget and maintenance staff preferences will allow it
• Energy Star rated white roofs are utilized to minimize heat gain and reduce heat island effect.
• Electronic ballasts and high efficiency lamps are used to light spaces.
• Daylight harvesting, natural lighting and occupancy sensors are utilized to reduce energy for lighting.

Sustainability
Emc2 has completed two LEED Certified projects: NCA Office building in ASU’s Tempe Research Park is Gold Certified and Arizona’s first LEED Silver Certified Public High School for Agua Fria UHSD, Desert Edge High School – Phase II. We also have three LEED Accredited Professionals on staff who incorporate the latest sustainable design strategies for our clients’ projects.

We are committed to providing sustainable, healthy and energy efficient design that is integrated within the requirements of each project. We select materials that perform at multiple levels; appearance, durability, comfort, safety, and effect on energy and cost, both initially and over its life cycle.
