Scope Of Work

The existing Woodrow Wilson Library, a dated 12,300 sf one-story structure, was in need of significant renovations as well as an all-new 2,120 sf addition. The $4M project scope included exterior work, a curtainwall, new roofing, MEP systems, and all interior finishes and FF&E, as well as sitework and landscaping. Designed and constructed to be LEED Gold certified, the library includes building materials with high recycled content, a roof made of reflective materials to reduce cooling costs, and an efficient air ventilation system.

After a phased, yearlong schedule, Fairfax County re-opened its doors in a ribbon-cutting ceremony that revealed to the community a modern, welcoming feel along Knollwood Drive in Falls Church, Virginia. A new light-filled spine relocates the entrance closer to the parking lot and connects all the main functions of the building. The building includes improved collections and seating areas and day-lighting in all public areas. The library boasts improved access to expanded meeting rooms, quiet and group study rooms, after-hours access to meeting room facilities, and an integrated mechanical system. rand* was granted an “Award of Excellence for Building Design and Construction” by Fairfax County’s Dept. of Public Works and Environmental Services for the successful project delivery.
