Scope Of Work
Located in the heart of the South NAU Campus, the dining hall was built in 1970 as two separate buildings followed by an addition in 1992 that connected the two buildings. Originally intended to be a Dining Hall Renovation project, the scope evolved to create a comprehensive Student Union experience.
From a system level, the facility was updated with: four new air handling units, zoned for function; five make-up air units for the micro-restaurants; LED lighting and day-light control; oil filled transformer; and new Service Entrance Section. The project was broken into three phases to keep the facility operational throughout the renovation.
Being a critical component to the enhancement of student life in the South Campus, this facility needed to host an active, dynamic dining program with food choices and amenities crafted to be consistently interesting and relevant to student needs. This resulted in strategic design moves to make this a desirable destination for restaurant-level dining accommodating 425 seats with seven micro-restaurants; for non-meal period socialization through a robust Student Learning Center consisting of conference spaces as well as highly visible classrooms; and as a showpiece for campus tour groups.
