Our Story

Excel Paving Company was founded in 1978 by Curtis P. Brown and his two partners. Throughout many years in the industry, Excel’s reputation and capabilities grew. Excel originally focused on basic street reconstruction but quickly expanded to include freeway construction, rail yards, shipping terminals and airport facilities. By 1995, Curt’s two partners had moved on leaving him the sole owner and president of Excel Paving Company.

Curtis P. Brown passed away on April 22, 2017. For 39 years, Curt led the company with a keen eye for detail and an unmatched understanding of the industry. He was a fixture at the office, heavily involved in each and every bid or project that was completed. Curt made

time to visit all ongoing projects on a regular basis to offer his expertise and solve problems. His knowledge of construction was immense. The company name describes it solely as a paving company but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Our specialty may be asphalt paving but Excel is a general contracting company capable of much more. We have performed projects ranging from wet utility installation to minor concrete structures like retaining walls and box culverts. The success and abilities of the company is a direct result of the leadership provided by our founder. He is most certainly missed.
