Scope Of Work

Lendlease provided program management services for the modernization of the Emanuel Celler U.S. Courthouse in downtown Brooklyn, New York.

This seven-story facility, constructed in the early 1960s, houses courtrooms, judge chambers, U.S. Marshals facilities and various offices for court agencies. The building is surrounded by two active streets, a public park and the new 14-story federal courthouse, a Lendlease project. The courthouse now serves as the entrance to the Emanuel Celler U.S. Courthouse.

Preconstruction services included design and constructability review, budget and schedule, inspection, progress reports and safety.

Construction phase services included the oversight of asbestos abatement, MEP system upgrades, blast and ballistic protection, seismic retrofit and complete interior renovations, extensive exterior renovations included the replacement of the stone parapet with pre-cast, the roof and the curtain wall/windows.

Lendlease participated in the implementation of sustainable construction wherever possible including the use of materials with low volatile organic compounds, increasing indoor air quality.

The two-phase, modernization program allowed tenants to maintain operations within a portion of the building during construction; a temporary, vertical demising walls separated the occupied building from active construction.
