Scope Of Work

UTEP’s College of Health Sciences offers nationally accredited professional education programs in the health, rehabilitation, and human service fields. Students pursuing any of these fields need an in-depth understanding of human anatomy. So, when UTEP needed to expand its human anatomy teaching laboratory to accommodate increased demand, they turned to Vaughn Construction to convert a 50-year-old basement into a state-of the art laboratory.

The newly renovated basement level of the Campbell Building allows students to gain real-world experience in nearly twice as much space as the former lab. The new lab has all new dissection tables and more storage. Improved ventilation and exhaust systems provide a safer working environment and allow multiple medical students to work in the space at one time. Three high-definition video cameras record dissections for display on four large plasma screen displays, providing nursing and pre-health biology students the opportunity to view the dissections as a group. When not in use for dissections, the facility hosts continuing education courses for speech-language pathology programs, community physical therapists, and occupational therapists to maintain their licenses.

The new human anatomy teaching lab offers support to future clinicians, practitioners, and researchers who will ultimately serve and greatly improve health outcomes in the Paso del Norte region.
