Northstar Refrigeration, Inc.

Northstar Mechanical was founded by Jon Townsend in July 2004.

Throughout his career in the HVAC/R business, Jon had serviced several property management groups, refrigeration plant owners, and ice skating rinks as an expert in process cooling for anodizing and hard coat systems. So when he started Northstar, he had an established group of loyal customers in place who had also become his friends.

For the past twelve years, Northstar has become recognized for their work as the experts to turn to in a number of fields and specialties.

Design Build Systems for the Medical Field

Northstar Mechanical has specialized in design build systems for the medical field both for HVAC systems and medical process equipment design. Recent projects include the installation of a stand by chiller water system for Milton Hospital, providing cooling to the Operating Rooms in the event of a power failure.

Northstar has installed several systems at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, including:

A 300 Ton Chiller that cools the hospital’s Emergency Room;

Two Dakin VRV systems for the blood lab;

A Munters dehumidification system to control humidity and remove moisture from the air for the Operating Room facility;

Daikin system in the IT rooms and various other locations throughout the medical facility.

Refrigeration

One of Northstar Mechanical’s recent industrial refrigeration projects was for Northeast Refrigerated Terminal in Middleborough and Taunton, Massachusetts. This included the installation of a 10,000 square foot addition to their existing freezer and installing a pumped ammonia recirculation system with a complete upgrade of all controls.

Northstar also installed a new control system at the Middleborough facility.

Commercial Projects

Northstar Mechanical’s commercial division completes projects or all sizes, both large and small. Northstar recently upgraded the HVAC systems at Fox Rock properties in Norwell MA. The work included included tenant fit outs and upgrading the 250,000 square foot facility, partnering with FMC Technologies.

Additionally, over 40 rooftop units were installed along with several Daikin VRV systems.

Evaporative Cooling Towers and Energy Rebates

Northstar also recently installed two new evaporative cooling towers, with system pump upgrade, at Fox Rock in Norwell. Part of the renovation was a complete upgrade of the building’s water source heat pumps and, again, partnering with FMC Technologies to upgrade the building control system.

This renovation qualified for significant energy rebates.
