History of R.A. Rush Plumbing & Heating Co. Inc.

R.A. Rush Plumbing and Heating Co., Inc. started operations in 1970. The  company was incorporated in the State of Michigan on August 28, 1970. Since its  inception, it has been located at 6880 Sylvania-Petersburg Road in Ottawa Lake,  Michigan. The office is located one mile from the Ohio border; therefore, work  is performed in both states. It was owned wholly by Robert A. Rush from this  date until his retirement on February 26, 1998. During his time of ownership,  Robert was licensed in Michigan and Ohio, and his scope of work was generally  new residential construction.

On February 26, 1998, Robert sold his entire interest in the company to his  son, Darrell B. Rush. Darrell is also licensed in Michigan and Ohio, as well as  all surrounding local jurisdictions. Since 1998 the company has grown and  changed its direction. The scope of work is now commercial and industrial,  encompassing restaurants, strip malls, business/medical offices, apartments,  machine shops and factories.

On January 1, 2008, Laura L. Rush acquired 51% of the company. Darrell's  expertise and licensures in plumbing and pipefitting are now more effectively  used working in the field. Laura has managed the company since she purchased it  with Darrell in 1998. She oversees the day-to-day operations and controls the  direction of the company. R.A. Rush Plumbing & Htg. Co. is now a certified  Women's Business Enterprise (WBE), as well as an EDWOSB (Economically  Disadvantaged Woman Owned Small Business).

R.A. Rush Plumbing & Htg. Co., Inc.  a business specializing in commercial and industrial plumbing, received national re-certification as a Women's Business Enterprise by the Women's Business Enterprise Council-Great Lakes, a regional certifying partner of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

WBENC's national standard of certification implemented by the Women's Business Enterprise Council-Great Lakes is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.

By including women-owned businesses among their vendors, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier/vendor diversity programs.

Certified EDWOSB

On October 7, 2010, the U.S. Small Business Administration published a final rule effective February 4, 2011, aimed at expanding federal contracting opportunities for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs). The Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contract program authorizes contracting officers to set aside certain federal contracts for eligible:

• Women-owned small businesses (WOSBs) or
• Economically disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSBs)

To be eligible, a firm must be at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more women, and primarily managed by one or more women. The women must be U.S. citizens. The firm must be "small" in its primary industry in accordance with SBA's size standards for that industry. In order for a WOSB to be deemed "economically disadvantaged," its owners must demonstrate economic disadvantage in accordance with the requirements set forth in the final rule.
