Rumble Strips

Rumble strips are the grooves of pavement designed to alert distracted or inattentive drivers who might be driving too close to the edge of a highway. The Rumble Hog, created by Hog Technologies, uses one-inch diamond-tipped teeth that can create the rumble markings along the side of the road at up to five miles per hour. Increasingly rumble strips are used on undivided roads to prevent head-on collisions and opposite direction sideswiped. Center line rumble strips can reduce single[1]vehicle run-off-road crashes by 50 percent on rural highways and 91 percent on urban two-lane roads. Most states in the U.S. have installed shoulder and edge line rumble strips as a way to prevent head-on and edge line vehicle crashes in areas where the speed limit is 45 miles mph and above.

Hydroblasting

Our specialized hydroblasting equipment is also used for rubber removal on runways as well as removing curing compounds on concrete decks. With varying levels of pressure, we can wash the pavement making the surface optimal, for the application of pavement markings.

Recessed Pavement Marking

Safety Marking, Inc. has developed specialized equipment designed to meet the ever growing demand for recessed pavement markings. With our state of the art grooving equipment, we can recess a line 50-120 Mils below the surface of the road. The cut is smooth with vertical edges providing the optimal surface on which place the markings. The grooving process protects the markings from snow plow damage as well as normal traffic wear and tear thus improving the reflectivity and extending the life of the line. 

Specialty Items

Black Aggregate

Safety Marking Inc. of Bridgeport CT pioneered the use of black aggregate in stage construction. By adding a ceramic aggregate the Epoxy acts as a flat black masking agent. This process makes the lines virtually indiscernible at night and during inclement weather. This process eliminates confusing grind marks from the road providing a smooth and clean transition through the work zone. The other use for black aggregate is to add a contrasting marking on concrete roadways, adding a highly visible cue during daytime hours.

AirMark®

AirMark® is a durable preformed thermoplastic pavement marking material for airside use. Whether the need is for linear delineation or horizontal surface signage, AirMark® is best suited for markings such as taxiway, hold position, geographic position, vehicle roadway, aprons, ramps, and at aircraft parking and tie downs. Retroreflective glass beads are intermixed throughout the material so as the marking wears new beads are exposed for retained retroreflectivity. The area can be reopened to traffic within 15 minutes after application. Removal is simple with water blasting.

Thermoplastic Pavement Markings

The Benefits of Thermoplastic

• When Thermoplastic is heated to 450 degrees it liquefies. When applied at this temperature it melts into the upper surface of the asphalt, forming a thermal bond. Thermoplastic is typically applied at 90 to 125 mills thick; it is oil resistant and has superior bonding strength.
• Thermoplastic has glass beads mixed in with the product and at the time of application the glass beads remain on the top increasing reflectivity and safety.
• Thermoplastic has a “useful life” of 2-4 years.
