Scope Of Work

The Lahey Clinic wanted to provide continuous coverage for employees and visitors as they came from their garage to the main entrance of the hospital. The structure needed to complement the architecture of the hospital and provide shelter from the elements between the two disjointed existing structures. Additionally the client wanted a fully-finished look that included matching ceiling panels on the underside of the canopy to hide all structural steel.

Our design team created a 61 foot long, 13 foot wide half-round canopy to cover the walkway. The canopy was customized to follow the S-curve shape of the walkway providing complete coverage and visual interest. Lahey Clinic chose blue, Ferrari 502 weatherproof fabric for the roof and panels to complement the building design. The supporting substructure consisted of durable 3 x 3 inch tubular steel posts and a 3 x 5 inch tubular sub-frame that was custom-built by our fabrication team. Because of the size and shape of the structure, the sub-frame was constructed completely on site and the canopy sections were then brought in wrapped and pre-assembled for easy installation. Finally, matching ceiling panels were constructed and installed to provide a finished look along with a center ridge line to allow lights to be mounted.

Construction of the canopy was completed on time and on budget. The finished canopy meets the client's goal of providing continuous protection from the elements between the garage and the hospital main entrance, while integrating nicely with the architectural design of the existing structures.
