Our Story

Espina Stone Co. was incorporated in 1971. Our goal as an organization is to provide the construction and development community with skilled craftsmen to perform high quality dimensioned cut to size and hand tooled natural stonework. To this end we have worked for the Federal Highway Administration, The National Park Service, DCDPW, Maryland and Virginia Departments of Transportation and several other agencies including WMATA, WRAA, The City of Baltimore, The City of Richmond and The National Capital Parks and Planning Commission. Espina has installed natural stone and architectural pre-cast for Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) and Duke University. Included with the work for these agencies Espina Stone Co. has completed numerous stone masonry projects for several private and commercial developers.

For these organizations we have completed projects consisting of new stone construction including stone walls, natural stone paving and natural stone building facades. Along with new construction Espina Stone Co. specializes and has extensive experience in the restoration and historic preservation of stone structures. We have worked preserving and restoring historically sensitive bridges, monuments, canals and buildings.

Espina’s stonemasons are skilled at installing all types of pre-fabricated dimensioned stone including Limestone, Granite, Marble and Slate. In addition to installing prefabricated stone materials our masons handcraft and install finished stonework from raw materials quarried to no specific form or dimension, also known as rubble or field stone masonry. Espina also installs architectural pre-cast and brick and pre-cast concrete paving in addition to or along with the natural stonework. This benefits our clients by giving them the option to contract to Espina a "turn key" architectural masonry package, reducing masonry related coordination issues and the number of contractors on a project.

Espina employee’s train under the watchful supervision of our more accomplished Master Stone Masons honing their skills at natural stone masonry construction. Espina’s general labor force is made up of dedicated employees that work hard to become proficient at their trade. The majority of our employees have been with us for many years. Espina moves the nucleus of its labor force from project to project, hiring additional employees from the labor force local to the project. These employees are screened and hired based on their skill and ability. They are closely supervised and are trained to meet Espina’s high quality standards.

Espina’s success as an organization is based on a continued focus on its original goal, to provide skilled craftsmen to perform high quality stonework to the development community.
