PAVEMENT MARKINGS

Pavement markings are any marking you see on asphalt or concrete. There are three types paint, thermoplastic, and “durastripe” also known as methyl methacrylate (MMA). Our firm provides two: paint and thermoplastic.

There are a variety of traffic paints to choose from but we have come to love and trust Sherwin Williams Columbia Alkyd. We also provide “green” waterborne latex paint. Latex paint is more challenging and inefficient to work with thus is more expensive than columbia alkyd.

Thermoplastic comes in two forms of plastic, preformed thermoplastic and a white powder, both requiring being heat up to 400 degrees. Preformed thermoplastic is typically used for stencils in the roadway. It is applied with a torch, when heated the thermoplastic bonds with the asphalt. Thermoplastic powder is applied via a metal shoe once the powder has been heated up to a healthy temperature of 400 degrees.

Thermoplastic is created of chemicals that bite into the asphalt creating a thicker, longer lasting application. For concrete applications, a concrete sealer is applied prior to thermoplastic applications.

Below are examples of what may happen if paint or thermoplastic are applied in unwarrantable conditions.

EXTRUDED CONCRETE CURB

There are a variety of different style curbs, however our firm only provides extruded concrete curb. This type of curb is typically used for enclosing parking lots or landscaping. Extruded concrete curb is a mixture of sand and concrete formed by extruding the mixture through a metal shoe onto asphalt or concrete. We offer a few size options, with the smallest being the most durable and cost efficient.

Below are examples of what may happen if extruded concrete curb is applied in unwarrantable conditions.

SEAL COAT

From the moment asphalt is applied it begins to break down. Sealing your asphalt on a regular basis will prolong the life of your asphalt as well as reduce your overall costs. Seal coat is an asphalt emulsion coating that slows down the damaging effects from weather, water, and chemicals. Seal coat does not prevent damage it only slows it down. Seal coat is always applied with 2 coats, the first coat seals the asphalt and the second coat creates the smooth, black finish.

For lots that already have crack damage, we can apply crack seal to cracks up to 1” in width. Again, this does not fix the cracks it only slows down the deterioration process. Crack seal is applied to the cracks prior to laying seal coat.

Below are examples of what may happen if seal coat is applied in unwarrantable conditions.

Wheelstops

A wheelstop is primarily used to stop cars from hitting a curb, sign, or building. If a car is driven with enough speed it will jump a wheelstop. Wheelstops come in a variety of sizes. Typical size ranges are 6 feet long

Pavement Marking removal

Shotblasting is the removal of painted pavement markings using a machine that shoots out tiny metal balls against the pavement surface. This form of removal does not leave teeth marks.

Grinding is the most popular method of pavement marking removal. The grinder is used to remove painted and thermoplastic pavement markings by grinding the pavement in order to completely remove the marking. This method will leave behind “teeth” marks and the pavement surface will not be smooth.

Pressure Washing

Pressure washing is the best form of cleaning to be used on pavement prior to applying pavement markings or seal coat. This is a service our firm provides but typically recommends our customer to provide for themselves due to the costs associated with it.

Traffic buttons/RPMS

Traffic buttons and RPMS are the round or square markers you see in the roadway. They are often used on crosswalks or centerlines.

Signage

We provide a wide variety of Traffic, Parking lot, and Fire Lane signage. Custom signs are available upon request. We can provide a variety of different post and anchors installs. Local codes and specifications not a problem, we got it covered.
