About Us

For over 30 years, CPL Detection has been providing high quality Leak Detection and Underground Utility Detection for business, government and residential clients throughout Southern California. In fact, we were the first utility locating and leak detection service in all of San Diego County.

Using state-of-the-art utility locating equipment and leak detection instruments such as Ground Penetrating Radar, Cable Fault Locators and Video Camera inspection, there is no issue we cannot address. And with a team of experienced professionals, we can serve your needs from San Diego, to Los Angeles to Riverside. CPL Detection is on call 24 hours a day and with offices in both San Diego and Riverside Counties, we can respond, in most instances, within a 2 hour time frame no matter where you are located in Southern California.

Our Team
Cable, Pipe & Leak Detection has ten full service trucks that are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Our professional technicians have perfected the art of locating utilities and leaks. Our highly skilled technicians have completed the industry’s most extensive training and certification, with an ongoing commitment to adapting the newest techniques including Green Certified Technicians.

Mario Gonzales heads our utility team followed by Aaron Buber, Richard Martinez and Mark Coats. All have been trained in both public and private utility locating and are certified to work in confined spaces. Mario is also certified by both San Diego Gas & Electric & Pacific Bell. Aaron has done many of our larger projects including the San Diego Zoo, the Del Mar Race Track, and all over Camp Pendleton. Richard is one of our Ground Penetrating Radar and Concrete Scanning Specialists. Mark Coats does a lot of our Dig Alerts and runs our new Pathfinder Crawler.

David Belus has been with the company for over 15 years and heads up a quality team of leak locators. Jake Hazelebach, John Bauer, Jose Chacon, Mike Swadner & Jason Roan round out the team. No job is too complex for our team whether its’ chilled water lines, heating lines or irrigation or domestic mains, our technicians have done it all. CPL has the experience and expertise to solve some of the most difficult problems.

Brad Belus is the owner and a field technician who spends much more time in the field than in the office. Through the last 17 years Brad has experienced every type of locate imaginable. Today, Brad is our only technician who handles cable fault locating.

CPL also has a great team in the office. Ruth Hazelebach is the head dispatcher and has been with CPL for 14 years. Melissa Bailey is our Project Coordinator and plays an intricate part in setting up big utility locating jobs.
There is no job that is too big or too small for CPL. Our experience and specialized equipment make any locating task a snap.  Michelle Brady dispatches and heads up our Dig Alert portion of our locating services and is in charge of billing and our Account Receivables Department. Cheryl Mosier has been with CPL for over 20 years and oversees Contracts and Marketing and is valuable in keeping CPL a customer service oriented business. Lynne Lucas rounds out the team and is in charge of purchasing.
