Our Story

Established in 1953 and incorporated in 1972, Alco Iron & Metal Company, a family owned business, began operation on a quarter acre in San Leandro, California.

Still owned by the same family, Alco Iron & Metal now has four large locations in Northern California with a combination of over 35 acres. The company now employs more than 220 skilled employees including scrap metal buyers, processing crews, new & usable buyers, experienced sales staff, demolition experts, certified welders, and a complete fabrication shop staff. Alco holds four contractors licenses: A, B, Demolition & Fabrication.

Alco customers range from do-it-yourself homeowners and metal artists to manufacturers, major construction company's, domestic and overseas ferrous and non-ferrous mills, refineries, government agencies and industrial giants.

Our employees are friendly, knowledgeable and always available to meet the customer's needs.

Most importantly, Alco maintains the lowest pricing available on new, surplus and secondary steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
