Our Story

Maxim Skylights specializes in the manufacture of Hurricane, Impact, Storm, and Blast & Bomb resistant skylights that also all comply with OSHA Fall Protection guidelines to protect against roof opening fall through accidents.Every Maxim Skylight is made with impact resistant glazing to provide protection and energy efficiency in every installation scenario whether local building code requires it or not. Our goal is to provide the highest performance skylight to our customers, period. Since our inception, Maxim Skylights has been providing polycarbonate and impact resistant insulated glass skylights and has proven to be the skylight of choice for Commercial, Military and Residential projects where impact resistance, blast & bomb resistance and energy efficiency are required. Standards from Miami-Dade County & Texas Department of Insurance to OSHA & Cal-OSHA to DoD Military Spec approvals allow Maxim Skylights to provide a high performance skylight for any project.

OSHA FALL PROTECTION: Roof opening fall through accidents pose a significant risk from the first day of construction to every day after the building is complete.  It is extremely important to install skylights that protect people.Maxim Skylights has tested multiple unit skylight models and roof systems to make sure we offer multiple options to protect workers or anyone who happens to be on the roof for whatever reason from falling through one of our skylights or roof systems. Maxim Skylights has not stood by waiting for the skylight industry to agree on a test protocol or even a product performance standard. An industry wide product performance standard is far overdue and is one of the most unfortunate aspects as the big companies in the skylight industry have failed the entire roofing industry.

But Maxim Skylights, working closely with our product testing facilities, went beyond what any other companies have attempted and it is our position that “meeting” an unofficial test standard was not good enough. Maxim went to extreme measures to make sure when we put a label on our skylights indicating the unit meets “OSHA & Cal-OSHA Fall Protection Guidelines” we would be 100% confident that we are providing unmatched protection. Until there is some industry standard or test protocol, Maxim Skylights believes it’s in the interest of safety to provide the highest performing skylight available to prevent roof opening fall-through accidents.

BOMB & BLAST RESISTANCE: Maxim Skylights Blast & Bomb Resistant design complies with The US Department of Defense (DoD) anti-terrorism standards and the US Army Corp of Engineers blast resistant design methodology including ASTM F1642/ ASTM F2912/ GSA TS01-2003/ PDC-TR 10-02. The UV Enhanced polycarbonate dome and 16mm 5 layer multi-wall polycarbonate configuration provide the benefits of blast and bomb protection and energy efficiency without limiting light transmission. Average peak reflected pressure = 6.97 psi with a 40 psi-msec average positive phase impulse allows a NO HAZARD rating and level of protection that meets or exceeds the protection required for military installations and high risk projects from embassies to government buildings worldwide. Maxim Skylights has added additional approvals and certifications to this product line, including:

  • ASTM 1886/1996 large and small missile impact testing, and tested the design to ensure compliance with Miami-Dade County product control for the 150mph HVHZ,
  • Compliance with the 6th Edition (2017) of the Florida Building Code including impact resistance and HVHZ approval,
  • Texas Department of Insurance Windstorm approval for impact resistant products approved for use in the Inland I, Inland II, and the Seaward Zones of the Designated Catastrophe Area of the Texas Gulf Coast,
  • OSHA Fall Protection testing to protect against roof opening fall through accidents, and
  • All of the industry standards for air/water/structural performance protocols for skylights under AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-08 & -11 including ASTM E283, ASTM E330, ASTM E547, and ASTM E331.
