Our Story

New South Supply was founded in 1981 in Columbia, SC, by Wayne Gotto and Wayne Glenn. They had worked together at Specialties, Inc. in Columbia and, with the backing of a major customer, decided to start their own company. They struggled starting during a recession with interest rates of 22%, the highest in our nation's history, but they persevered and succeeded in becoming the premier provider of waterproofing products and concrete and masonry supplies in the New South.

The name, New South Supply, was chosen as they had a competitor named Old North Supply, and the goal of New South Supply was to be the opposite of that company.

New South Supply has grown from the original location in Columbia to a total of nine branches. The other branches in South Carolina are; Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Hardeeville (Hilton Head area), and Charleston. The company has expanded to Atlanta, Georgia and North Carolina with branches in; Charlotte, Colfax (Greensboro), and Garner (Raleigh).

On November 1, 2001, Wayne Gotto and Wayne Glenn sold the Company to an investment group led by Jim Sobeck of Greenville, SC, a construction industry veteran with over 30 years’ experience in the construction products business. In January of 2007 the Company name was changed slightly to New South Construction Supply to make it clear that the Company is in the Construction Supply business and a new logo and slogan were also adopted. The new logo featured a bear to signify the aggressiveness and strength the Company was known for. The new slogan- “Know How. Can Do.”, makes it clear that the Associates of the Company have the “Know How” to provide our customers with expert advice and that we have a “Can Do” attitude. As we like to say, “The answer is “yes”, now what was the question?”

At New South Construction Supply, we know that besides a competitive price on top quality materials, providing 100% on-time delivery, orders shipped fully without back-orders, are critical to your company.

We welcome the opportunity to prove to you that we are serious about our slogan!
