Scope Of Work
The project is known as Segment 3B of the Interstate 35W Improvement Project (35WIP). Once completed, the 35WIP will cost $2 billion, include managed toll lanes throughout the 18-mile corridor and double the vehicle capacity of the existing highway. As part of Segment 3B, Lane is constructing 3.58 miles of general purpose lanes (3-4 in each direction) and frontage roads (2-3 lanes in each direction), as well as the addition of four managed (toll) lanes.
Lane is self-performing a majority of the work including all grading and drainage operations, erosion control, bridge construction, asphalt and concrete paving, traffic control, and project/construction management.
Lane’s asphalt plant in Justin, TX produces approximately 350,000 TN of hot mix which is placed by Lane's crews on I-35W.
Lane is also installing 900 LF of 60-inch sewer line, using both directional boring and jack hammering. Jack hammering is used because of a thick hard limestone geology that is present in part of the boring location.
Approximately 2,000 traffic barrels and 63,000 LF of traffic barriers are used to safely guide the traveling public through the construction zone.
