Lawrence (Larry) Clark is the principal of Sustainable Performance Solutions LLC (SPS), a South Florida-based engineering firm whose practice is limited to energy and sustainability consulting. Before launching SPS, he served as Director of Corporate Business Development at Hill York and was actively engaged with its Hygreen Energy Solutions group from its launch in early 2008 until he started SPS in September 2010. His previous experience includes such diverse assignments as president and vice president at MEPCO (formerly Dunham Division of Dunham-Bush); and regional manager at Vapor Power division of Westinghouse Air Brake. Clark is a graduate engineer (B.S.E.E.), a certified Green Globes Professional, a LEED AP with O+M specialty credential, a Certified Commercial Energy Auditor, a Florida Water Starsm Commercial and Institutional Certifier, a Qualified Commissioning Process Provider (QCxP), and a Certified Guiding Principles Compliance Professional. He has had more than two dozen HVAC and energy related articles published and is a frequent presenter and lecturer on green building certification, central energy plant optimization, metering/submetering, and advanced ventilation strategies. He also writes the semi-monthly “Clark’s Remarks” blog for HPAC Engineering and is a member of various professional organizations including ASHRAE, IEEE and USGBC South Florida (2011-2012 chair of Broward Green Schools Committee and current Chapter Advocacy chair). In addition, he serves on the BOMA Florida Energy Committee, HPAC Engineering’s Editorial Advisory Board, and the Smart Growth Partnership Board of Directors. Clark previously served on the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) Education Review Team, served six years on the City of Pompano Beach Recycling & Solid Waste Advisory Committee, and presently serves on the City of Fort Lauderdale Sustainability Advisory Board.
George Dale is an independent lighting consultant who has been working with SPS since its inception. He has been in the energy efficient lighting industry since 1987, being one of the three original founders of Reflect-A-Light, Inc., the firm credited with developing and pioneering aluminum reflector systems for high efficiency lighting. Dale also served as V.P. at Performance Control, LLC, from 1997 until its sale in 2003, at which time be began consulting for and with such companies as Siemens, FSG, SPS, ECO Engineering, L&S Enterprises, Harris Manufacturing, Southern Energy Technologies, FP&L Services, Southern Group, Duke Power and BC Hydro, and various federal agencies, including DOD, DOE, GSA, and NASA. Dale is a CLMC, CLEP, and Green Lights Auditor, and provides detailed lighting analyses in order to formulate state-of-the-art recommendations.
Hugh Smith, an independent energy and facility advisor based in South Florida since 2005, is SPS’ specialist in energy and sustainability for hospitality properties. In that capacity he will assist SPS’ hotel and resort clients with various types and levels of energy studies and audits, and with preparation of sustainability action plans. Smith was most recently involved with the Florida Green Lodging Program, part of the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, providing resource information to implement sustainable standards and practices in Florida hotels. He has 35 years of responsible experience and extensive technical knowledge in physical plant administration. As former Vice President of Operations for Wyndham Hotels, he gained first-hand experience with all aspects of the hospitality industry, including off-shore and commercial properties. In his previous role of Vice President of Engineering for Radisson Hotels, he developed and implemented energy saving strategies and action plans, including low cost/no cost recommendations; high payback retrofit capital projects; and future planning. Prior to his hospitality experience, he worked in Facility Operations for two major universities in Washington, D.C. Smith is a Certified Hotel Administrator, LEED Green Associate, and certified Green Globes Professional.
Ross Lande is the newest member of the SPS team. As a summer intern, Ross built on his collegiate experience as a student television producer to work as a production assistant on “Swamp Wars” for the Animal Planet TV series. After graduating with a B.A. in Telecommunications, he did post production on such shows as the Steve Harvey Show, Anderson Cooper Live, the Jeremy Kyle Show, Judge Mathis, and People’s Court. Ross then joined the family business – a supplier of high efficiency lighting and HVAC solutions – and trained as a lighting auditor. He now has more than a year of performing lighting and HVAC surveys, primarily counting fixtures/lamps and collecting equipment nameplate and usage data, and will be expanding his capabilities and competencies as a field technician with SPS, under the supervision of the firm’s professional staff.
