Claude Powers's Bio
Claude Powers has been in the construction industry for over 30 years. After graduating from Purdue University, West Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction, Claude joined his father and brother in the family business. He as Powers & Sons Construction Company’s Secretary until he was named Vice President in 1987. In 2013, he was named the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and President of the Northwest Indiana and Chicago offices.
Claude serves the community and construction industry through involvement in numerous organizations including the Northwest Indiana Business Development Committee, Frontiers International Service Club, and Board of Managers for the John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club. He is an Executive Board for the Construction Advancement Foundation and serves as a Trustee on the Indiana Carpenters Pension Fund as well as the Apprenticeship Board. Claude is also actively involved in labor issues as the Chairman of the Labor Committee for the Commercial Contractors Caucus of the Northwest Indiana Contractors .
Larry Blouin's Bio
A vice president at Powers & Sons Construction since 2019, Larry Blouin has more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry, including establishing operational objectives, strategic plans, and marketing initiatives. With executive-level management skills, he provides our firm with strategic leadership, planning direction, and operations management.
Former executive director for capital project delivery at the University of Chicago, Larry led a team of facilities and building services professionals responsible for the planning, design and construction of projects ranging from $50,000 to $275 million. The projects were located primarily on the university’s Hyde Park campus, while others were located in Europe, India, and Asia.
Varied in scope and complexity, Larry’s work included research laboratories, libraries, an arts center, student residence halls, adaptive re-use of campus landmark buildings, infrastructure improvements, and classroom and office renovations, additions, and expansions.
In addition to college and university clients, Larry serves our K-12, health care, commercial, retail, hospitality, corporate, governmental, and other clients.
Mamon Power, JR's Bio
Mamon Powers, Jr. has been in the construction industry for more than 40 years. He began his career with the American Oil Company (Amoco) and then joined his father at Powers & Sons Construction Co., Inc. in 1971. He as the Company’s Treasurer until he was named President in 1987. Under his leadership, the Company switched its focus from residential to commercial and industrial constructionand grew to be one of the largest African-American owned construction companies in the country. Today as the firm’s Chairman and CEO, he provides strategic direction and leadership. Mamon graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer with the State of Indiana.
his career, Mamon has been actively involved in various organizations that the construction industry and community as a whole. Mamon serves as Board Chairman for Methodist Hospitals. He is also a of Fifth Third Bank’s Chicago Regional Board of Directors, World Presidents Organization, and Chief Executive Organization.
In 1996, Mr. Powers was appointed by Indiana Governor Evan Bayh to the Purdue University’s Board of Trustees. He was subsequently reappointed to four additional terms by three Governors and retired from his position in July 2011. In his final term as Trustee, Mamon as the Vice Chairman of the Board.
Mamon’s other previous affiliations include: Indiana Society of Professional Engineers (Former Vice Chairman); Indiana Associated General Contractors of America (Former Board ); Young Presidents Organization (Former Officer); and Operating Engineers #150 (Former Trustee of Health, Welfare and Apprenticeship Funds).
In May 2014, Mamon was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from Purdue University.
Mamon Powers, III's Bio
Mamon Powers, III grew up in the construction industry and spent many summers in high school and college working for the family business. In 2007, he chose to follow in his father’s, grandfather’s, and uncle’s footsteps by rejoining Powers & Sons Construction. He currently is on the Board of Directors for the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Indy Chamber, Ivy Tech Foundation, Methodist Health Foundation, and The United Way of Central Indiana. In 2011, Mamon was honored by being named to the Forty under 40 by the Indianapolis Business Journal.
After earning his MBA from Purdue University, Mamon accepted a position with a large General Contractor in Kansas City, Missouri. During his tenure, Mamon worked on large hospital projects ranging from $40 to $140 million in value. This experience helped broaden Mamon’s construction managementexperience and prepared him to return to Powers & Sons with new ideas and a fresh perspective. Over the years, Mamon has in numerous capacities with Powers & Sons including Laborer, Carpenter Apprentice, Estimator, Project Engineer, and Project Manager. He currently serves as Executive Vice President and oversees the operations of the Indianapolis office. Mamon is committed to making sure every Powers & Sons project is a success.
Mamon Powers, Jr.'s Bio
Mamon Powers III grew up in the construction industry and spent many summers in high school and college working for the family business. He served in a variety of capacities, including laborer, carpenter’s apprentice, estimator, project engineer, and project manager.
Mamon graduated from Trine University (formerly Tri-State University) with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Management with a concentration in construction. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University. Upon completing his MBA, Mamon accepted a position with a large general contractor in Kansas City. During his tenure, he planned and coordinated large hospital projects ranging from $40 to $140 million in value.
In 2007, he chose to follow the footsteps of his grandfather, father, and uncle by rejoining Powers & Sons Construction. A executive vice president for the firm, Mamon leads the Indianapolis office as its president. Under his direction, Powers & Sons has delivered high-profile projects including a $275 million Indiana Convention Center expansion and a $160 million renovation and new construction project for Lake Central School Corporation.
Currently, Mamon serves on several civic and charitable boards. He is a member of the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) Executive Committee and the Board of Directors for the Indy Chamber, Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC), Ivy Tech Community College Foundation, and the United Way of Central Indiana. He also serves on IU Health Foundation’s Philanthropy Council for the Adult Academic Health Center.
In 2020, Mamon was named Indy’s Best & Brightest in real estate development and construction. The Engineering News-Record included Mamon on its 2017 “Top Young Professionals” list. He was also recognized by the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2011 on its annual “40 Under 40” list.

Chris Kerns's Bio
Chris Kerns joined Powers & Sons in 2017. He has broad experience in construction cost estimating, including pre-construction planning, design development, and project management. Chris leads a company-wide estimating team with staff in three offices.
Chris analyzes blueprints and schematics, creates timelines, solicits subcontractor bids, evaluates bids received, and collects all information required to accurately estimate the time, money, materials, and labor required for general contracting and other projects. He is highly skilled in working with owners, architects, engineers, and others to develop estimates, including guaranteed maximum prices (GMPs).
An integral member of the management team, Chris is focused on meeting expectations for quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
Kevin Mikesell's Bio
Kevin Mikesell is currently Vice President of Estimating for the Chicago/Northwest Indiana Offices. He began working for Powers & Sons Construction in 1983, and enjoys working with others as a team to reach a common goal. He is a licensed pilot and enjoys officiating high school football and basketball in his spare time. One of Kevin’s favorite quotes is “You can’t let praise or criticisms get to you. It is a weakness to get caught up in either one”! Kevin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction Technology from Purdue University.

Dan O’Laughlin's Bio
Dan O’Laughlin joined Powers & Sons Construction in 1990. As Director of Field Operations, he is responsible for staffing, managing, and training the project superintendents as well as field manpower coordination. Dan is also a Senior Project Manager and has managed over $165 million in multi- family housing projects in past 10 years. Dan has ridden several bulls in his lifetime and in his spare time he enjoys coaching, as well as, building and flying model airplanes. Dan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction Technology from Purdue University.
Glenn Miles 's Bio
Glenn Miles joined Powers & Sons Construction in 2016 where he currently serves as the Vice President of Operations. Mr. Miles brings more than 25 years of Commercial Construction expertise in addition to relations and personnel management experience to the position. He will operate from the company’s offices in Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois.
During his career, Mr. Miles has worked as a Division Manager, Senior Project Manager, PrincipalProfessional Engineer, and Civil Engineer for companies based in Iowa and Washington. He has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from St. Martin’s College in Lacey, Washington, and he holds a Professional Engineer license in the state of Washington.
Keith Shanklin's Bio
Keith Shanklin is a Senior Project Manager with vast experience in Construction Management. Keith uses his engineer background to meticulously manage all sizes and types of commercial and industrial construction projects. His approach to manage and integrate complex systems aids him in delivering the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems seamlessly with the rest of the construction trade areas. In his down time, he enjoys playing golf, cycling and coaching his daughter’s softball team. Keith has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.

Kelly Powers Baria is Vice President. Her varied experience includes strategic planning, project management, estimating, litigation consulting, as well as commercial and residential real estate transactions. Kelly is a of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and serves on the Black Creativity Advisory Committee for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Kelly has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and graduated with Distinction from Purdue University.

Russell Lewis is a Senior Project Manager with extensive experience in Construction Management. Russell is a registered who enjoys managing the process of construction and watching a two dimensional concept on paper become realized in three dimensions. In his spare time, he enjoys reading science fiction books and riding his motorcycle. Russell has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design, both from Ball State University.

Dustin Thalmann's Bio
As a project manager and estimator, he has been responsible for projects including Rosenwald Court Apartments, the $71 million restoration of an Arts & Crafts building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The project received awards from five organizations for community real estate development and historic preservation, including a 2017 Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence and a 2018 ACHP/HUD Secretary's Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
Dustin also has experience in commercial construction, including retail, restaurants, and mixed-use developments as well as pre-construction experience with design-build projects.
His most recent work has focused on K-12 and higher education projects in greater Indianapolis and in central Indiana. Dustin is currently serving as pre-construction and senior project manager at two MSD Lawrence Township elementary schools and an early learning center.
Dustin excels at collaborating with design teams as well as ensuring subcontractors deliver maximum value through competitive bidding processes.
Randy Swinford's Bio
Randy joined the Powers & Sons team in 2020, bringing with him over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, including hands-on field work and managing all phases of multimillion-dollar projects.
His expertise includes management of ground-up new construction as well as renovation and addition projects. Randy excels in pre-construction planning, estimating, preparing and administering budgets and contracts, and scheduling. He has overseen projects including large multi-family and mixed-use developments, health care facilities, educational facilities, and utility projects.
Among Randy's career highlights are an $88M power plant and a $100M biomedical lab and office facility, both constructed in Connecticut.
In Indianapolis, his projects have run the gamut from sporting goods stores to hospital additions, university buildings, water treatment plants, and multi-family housing communities.
