Scope Of Work
Terra performed the complete demolition and removal of this multi-stage quarry rock and limestone mining and production plant. The plant encompassed more than 35 acres at this 328-acre production site, with a conveyer system more than three quarters of a mile in length. Terra performed all hazardous remediation activities, which included PCB decontamination, excavation, and disposal of petroleum impacted soils, and the removal and disposal of 81 tons of various hazardous chemicals. Demolition of the process plant began with the razing of four buildings in excess of ten stories each, totaling more than 450,000 sq. ft. Demolition also included four kilns, which were over 110 feet in length and weighed in excess of 800 tons, numerous bucket elevators leading to storage tanks/silos, associated stacks, and multi-story ball mills. Following the demolition of the process plant and conveyers, Terra concentrated on the six multi-stage rock-crushing units. Further, Terra was required to perform mass excavation in order to uncover sub grade storage vaults.
In the end, Terra transported and disposed of more than 6,500 tons of steel debris for recycling and disposal of 1,000 tons of construction and demolition debris. The concrete and foundations were sized and crushed on site and stockpiled for future use. The completed demolition activities led the way for the construction of a new corporate business park at this former heavy industrial site.
Terra provided an asset recovery program that resulted in approximately $225,000 on behalf of the client from the removal and sale of equipment and machinery at this facility.
