To help Butt Construction build Caesar Creek Dam, Garth came to Dayton in 1972 with a civil engineering degree from England and a background in heavy and highway work. He worked as an engineer on the dam for four years. Then, with two children born in that time, roots well-established, and being very happy with his employer, Garth stayed in Dayton. Garth has found his career with Butt Construction rewarding because he has had the opportunity to work in so many fields: as an engineer, surveyor, estimator, scheduler, project manager, overall project manager, chief estimator, and vice president. Garth is enjoying partial retirement but still assists with estimating and scheduling. When not at work, Garth tackles home projects, which usually means fixing things that he has put off for years, or assisting his sons with their projects. The latter provides Garth with an excuse to visit his grandchildren more often.
