Scope Of Work
GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) recently completed design/build project for a new industrial wastewater treatment system (WWTS) to pretreat metal finishing and metal working industrial wastewaters generated at GE Aviation’s jet engine components manufacturing campus in Hooksett, New Hampshire. The system was designed to improve the performance, capacity, and operating efficiency of the facility’s industrial wastewater management capabilities. The project included the partial decommissioning and reconfiguration of the existing treatment systems in Buildings 1 and 2 and constructing a new, combined WWTS located primarily in GE’s new 55,000-square-foot Building 2 addition.
GZA was responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of the new WWTS, and the wastewater transfer systems designed to convey wastewater between manufacturing buildings. Treatment involves the continued segregation of general (dilute) wastewater and concentrated wastewater, and pumping these waste streams through dedicated double-walled transfer lines. The 1,500-foot, double-walled pipeline system includes additional spare lines for future use and provides an optional capacity to transfer treated wastewater from the new WWTS back to the existing Building 1 Tank Farm.
GZA’s work included treatability studies and final treatment technology (with design flows of up to 43,200 gallons per day), which included free oil removal, hexavalent chromium reduction and sulfide precipitation, microfiltration solids separation, and final pH adjustment.
GZA served as the design/build project contractor and continues to be involved with ongoing system optimization.
