Scope Of Work

An aging parking lot and inadequate storm sewer system was the perfect opportunity to transform Storm Lake's City Hall parking lot into a green infrastructure solution. The parking lot was developed and constructed with the assistance of public works staff. Permeable interlocking pavers provide treatment for stormwater through retainage under the pavement as well as removing nutrients such as nitrates and phosphorus from the stormwater prior to discharge. Storage rock under the pavers provides open area where rainwater collects during storm events decreasing the loading on the storm sewer system. The project now serves as a case study to the community for the implementation of green infrastructure designs. The new parking lot was partially funded through Water Quality Initiative Funding from the state of Iowa with a local match by the city.
