Scope Of Work
This award winning state of the art facility on the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point campus provides students with landfill, wastewater treatment, recycling, composting and hazardous waste management training in a work like setting. The building includes both a wastewater pilot plant and lab.
The UWSP Waste Management Center was constructed utilizing concrete, masonry, steel, precast and membrane roof.
The majority of construction processes were completed during the school year, so careful consideration had to be taken to schedule installation of, and protect the completed materials and finishes.
During the excavation for the building pad, approximately 800 cubic yards of unsuitable soils were found which had to be removed and replaced with clean, compacted sand fill. This setback could have added an additional three weeks to the construction schedule, however Altmann was able to overcome this delay and completed the project within the original time frame, allowing the facility to be turned over to the owner for use at the start of the 2011 – 2012 school year.
An essential part of this project was recycling, with 458.7 tons of material being recycled with the help of WasteCap Resource Solutions. Another 17 tons of waste was landfilled and there was an overall project recycling rate of 96.42 percent.
