Our Story

Dakota Intertek Corp. (Dakota) is a certified MBE/SBE company with 26 years of general contracting, demolition, renovation, earthwork, brownfield redevelopment, environmental investigation, hazardous materials abatement/handling, and remediation experience. Core environmental contracting competencies include, but are not limited to: Phase I & Phase II Environmental Site Assessment, Site Investigation (SI), Remedial Investigation (RI), Site Closure, Geotechnical Investigations, Site Remediation, and Stormwater Management and Development of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) including Best Management Practices (BMPs).

Dakota’s clients include a broad range of Federal, State, municipal, and private entities.  Dakota’s staff incorporates strengths of multiple engineering and contracting disciplines, and individuals with a broad range of trade skills. One of Dakota’s principal core competencies is commercial and industrial facility demolition.  Approximately 40% of Dakota’s current annual revenue is derived from demolition projects. In conjunction with providing professional and technical services to our clients, Dakota routinely self-performs construction and demolition projects with our in-house staff and equipment.

Dakota was founded by a Professional Engineer, Mike Wan, and a Professional Geologist, Wenbin Yuan. Both sought to fill in the gap between specialized engineering firms who do not have contracting arms, and small contractors who do not have technical support capabilities. Dakota succeeded in filling in this gap and has provided combined general contracting and technical services for the past 26 years.

While our Corporate Office is located in New Berlin, Wisconsin, we have performed work throughout the Midwest. Dakota continues to grow steadily and has been consistently ranked as one of the "top-twenty" minority-owned contracting firms in the state of Wisconsin.

Some of Dakota's major clients include, but are not limited to:
Federal: US Army, USACE, NAVFAC, USDA FS, USDA ARS, VA, EPA, HUD, GSA, etc. (Dakota works on sites throughout the nation).
     State: WISDOT, DOA, WDNR, etc.
City & County: Milwaukee, Madison, and most City and County agencies throughout the State of Wisconsin.
Private: Clients include most of the larger Midwest regional construction firms, & most of the regional environmental consulting firms.

Dakota maintains team continuity through strong project management along with the right combination of talented individuals. Dakota is fully committed to all aspects of a project from inception to completion. We assign one full time Project Manager and Point of Contact. We establish aggressive schedules to finish project as soon as practicable. Dakota is strongly committed to following a quality control plan and adhering to a stringent health and safety plan - Dakota places safety as THE first priority. With a safe working environment, the quality of the work is not compromised. Dakota maximizes control of safety by using only qualified site safety and health officers, communicating and enforcing safety practices in the field, and removing obstacles that stand in the way of a safe work site.

Dakota is able to manage multiple projects concurrently because of our strong project delivery philosophy, which emphasizes our approach to partnering, communication, commitment to safety and quality, and conflict resolution. Our quality services and competitive prices have helped us to retain our clients and build our reputation, which is our greatest achievement. We take pride in the awards and recognition that we have received, but most of all, we take pride in the trust that we have built with our clients.
