Scope Of Work
The University of Virginia Fitness & Aquatics Center is in the Carl Smith Center at the University, neighboring Scott Stadium and David A. Harrison III Field. This new gymnasium addition project consists of adding an approximate total of 54,375 square feet to the existing Aquatics and Fitness Center.
The new addition space includes a 20,000-square-foot gymnasium with three full size basketball courts with an upper level elevated running track, a two-story 8,500-square-foot expansion of the fitness center consisting of an additional two fitness rooms, 8,100 square feet of space consisting of an aerobics room and a weightlifting room. The new addition also added a new 12,875-square-foot basement to accommodate a future chiller plant facility, and 4,900 square feet of potential ground floor space for a future aerobics room.
The facility’s exterior is a nice blend of Old Virginia face brick, pre-cast concrete, aluminum storefront windows, and a metal roof system. Many of the interior finishes are high end, including a special rubber flooring material on the elevated running track and high grade wood flooring in the gym and new aerobics rooms.
