Scope Of Work

Managing complex restoration scope around continually operating Church

Implementing stringent safety and mitigation measures to provide full public access to Copley Square throughout construction

Ensuring the highest level of quality workmanship to maintain the long-term integrity of this signature historic building

Completed in 1877, Trinity Church is an iconic H.H. Richardson-designed building located in the heart of Copley Square, a thriving commercial and residential district in Boston. Designated as a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Trinity Church is considered one of the most architecturally significant structures in the country.

With deterioration caused by long-term exposure to the elements, the West Wall and Southwest Tower were in need of restoration and repair to maintain the integrity of historic façade. Scope of work included extensive masonry repair, restoration of the old-growth White Pine louvers in the Southwest Tower and replacing the existing belfry roof with a new copper roof. This project also facilitated the effective re-installation of the restored Christ in Majesty stained glass window, which required the replacement of all window frames.

All work was managed around the continually operating Church within an active urban environment. Mitigation methods included custom signage and scrim, overhead protection, careful sequencing around Church activities and a traffic management plan coordinated with the City of Boston.
