Ideal Co., Inc.

Ideal Co. Inc. is one of the primary builders for Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurants throughout the United States. We also are a major builder for Christian Brothers Automotive, FMC Dialysis and other restaurants. Since 1960, we have built, in addition to the many restaurants, numerous office buildings, shopping centers, medical buildings, apartment complexes, assisted living campuses, hotels, and bank buildings. Our experience in building and owning pharmacies, assisted living facilities, and other medical related buildings in several states.

Ron Filbrun was the founder of Ideal Co. Inc. He started working in this trade after his release from the service in 1958. He worked a couple of years for local building contractors and began his business career as a finish carpenter. In March of 1960 Ron and a good childhood friend of his, Glen Miller, became partners in the business of general contracting. They were called F & M Contracting at this time. They built custom homes for the first five years, and then as opportunity presented itself, gradually moved into the commercial building industry. By 1970, three-fourths of their work was commercial building.

One of the treasured memories in their early business was when they met and became personally acquainted with R. David Thomas, who was the founder of Wendy’s International. From this relationship they built over 200 restaurants for his great company. Ideal Co. Inc. has since added nearly 700 more for other national chains.

In 1983 Glen Miller sold his interest in the business back to the corporation. At this time the company became The Ideal Co. Inc. Ron’s son-in-law and two sons then took positions in the company and in the investment businesses. Today they now own the company. With the construction and property management roles of our family companies being in good hands, we are ready to meet the challenges of the future with anticipation and success.
