Our Story

Daniels Construction was founded in 1953 by Joe Daniels Sr., a skilled carpenter who focused primarily as a residential contractor, on the values of honesty, integrity, quality and reliability.  Joe's work as a residential contractor was highlighted by being named President of the Madison Area Builders Association in 1960. In 1963, Daniels Construction expanded into commercial construction and in 1985 a street, sewer and underground division was added.

Through the years Joe Daniels Construction has helped the Madison and Dane County area grow with buildings for municipalities, State, and the Federal governments. This includes work for private and public entities constructing, remodeling, and repairing commercial, retail, industrial, institutional and historical restorations. Daniels Construction has been able to grow as well, while staying true to its' core set of values and delivering the Total Contracting Package.

Today, brothers Joe Jr., who serves as the President and CEO, and Jerry, Safety Director, manage the company. Daniels Construction is also an employee-owned company since 2006. Through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) all employees become part owners who share in the profits and benefit in the growth of the Company. Countless studies have shown that an ESOP makes good financial sense since companies with broad-based employee ownership outperform comparable companies where employees are not stakeholders. When the success of the Company is directly linked to the employees' ownership, this encourages productivity and better quality control.

Daniels Construction is able to self-perform a large percentage of its annual revenue because of the skilled and experienced workforce that it has. The average tenure of all employees at Daniels is 20 years and many employees have between 20-45 years of experience in the construction industry.

The Daniels strategy for building the Company continues to be twofold:

FIRST: Daniels Construction offers a full range of building services that are available to you before, during, and after the completion of your project. Look to Daniels Construction for:

SECOND: processes and operations at Daniels Construction are designed around the competitive bid model, with input from our employee/owners to introduce efficiencies and eliminate problems before they occur.

Our extensive experience with competitive building means higher quality with lower costs, whether your business model calls for competitive bid, design/build, time/materials, or negotiated cost pricing.
