Our Story

The Story of Copper State Communications

A good idea often begins with a couple of people who think they can do it better.

After years of working for telecommunications manufacturers in the 1980s, Steve Sutton and Roger Bingham had experienced the pros and cons of the industry firsthand. While it was exciting to work in a technology-forward industry, they were disappointed by the way customers were treated throughout a customer’s buying journey.

Seeing an opportunity to provide a better customer experience, Sutton and Bingham started Copper State Communications in 1982. The company focused on superior service, diverse choices, and providing dedicated, high-touch support to the customer long after the sale.

In 1987, they opened the Phoenix office. Growth steadily continued, and in 2008, they acquired a Flagstaff location, which expanded their reach to offer complete voice and data solutions to businesses of all sizes throughout the entire state of Arizona.

More than 30 years later, Copper State has 80 employees, over 13,000 unique customer locations, and, most importantly, a 99% customer satisfaction rate.
