Lees' avocation in private art lessons in various media through childhood, as well as working in construction during high school and college, led to interest in the architecture field. Starting as an architectural illustrator, Lee advanced quickly to project design and management / partnership in three firms then to founding and running BerardMartel Architecture Inc. today with Rob Martel, AIA. The combination of Lees’ years of construction experience and Robs’ early work for the largest development team in NH at the time, provides them with a wealth of ‘hands on’ experience that compliments the company-wide project design and delivery skills.
Building project teams and managing design campaigns are abilities honed in complimentary arenas; ski racing on Division One college ski teams and bicycle racing (USA and overseas) on factory teams. Assembling a project team and its goals, establishing consensus and timelines, meeting benchmarks and prevailing in front of obstacles allow the firm to stand out in design, service, and performance.
As co-founder of BerardMartel Architecture., Inc. Rob brings 35 years of experience that covers all aspects of architecture including sustainable energy design, land planning, and construction administration supporting the full stakeholder team. His experience starting with his studies at RISD and UNH (architecture and business degrees) and early work inside large mixed use development teams have prepared him to understand and support goals far beyond architects’ usual skillsets.
As one of the firm's co-directors Rob has developed effective methods for project team building, communication and construction support. He shares and encourages amongst the staff a commitment to high standards and has guided the firm to a higher level of project design quality meeting predetermined project budget, sustainability and ‘ROI’ metrics that design and delivery schedules adhere to.
