Chicago Hollow Metal, Inc. (The Door Doctors) has been in business since 1987. Thomas Johnson formed the company after identifying a need for quality work within the door and hardware field.

The Door Doctors specialize in field modification to installed openings as well as installation and repair of commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-unit doors, frames, and hardware.

Design, supply and implementation of the finished product is also an option with the Door Doctors complete turn key package.

Life Safety Compliance field surveys are a valuable service that has been offered to our customers since day one. These inspections are performed by field technicians and project managers that have extensive knowledge of NFPA 80 and 101 codes and requirements. Survey sheets are done on Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets to enable easy (non-propriety) access by all building managers and owners.

Surveys can be custom designed to each customers specific needs. Security status, functionality of existing hardware and condition of the door and frame are included in the survey. Pricing to replace or repair failed components can be added to the survey report if requested. It is extremely useful for building mangers and building owners to have an updated listing of all fire rated/fire egress openings as well as all perimeter entry and exit openings. The optional pricing component allows managers to budget and schedule individual openings (pricing is per opening).

We employ only union carpenters (Chicago District Council of Carpenters); all of which have years of experience in doors, frames and hardware. Our highly skilled technicians are constantly learning new knowledge about all related hardware, life safety, OSHA, and cutting/welding techniques in the field. The Door Doctor technicians are certified welders, certified hardware installers as well as being factory certified by manufacturers in acoustical and detention level installation.

The versatility of our services allow us to address and correct a wide variety of problems. We have been contracted for such prestigious facilities such as Northwestern Hospital, John G. Shedd Aquarium, Millenium Park, Chicago Transit Authority, and The University of Chicago. The repair/rework must be performed in an timely manner without disturbing surrounding areas.
