Scope Of Work
ISS purchased an abandoned property and then designed and constructed the largest regional stormwater management facility in the Philadelphia region. The $1.6 million facility serves 20 industrial properties located on the adjacent cul-de-sac and manages more than 40 acres of impervious area within the Pennypack Creeck Watershed. 50,000,000 gallons of stormwater are treated at the site annually. Completing the project involved ISS moving 61,000 cubic yards of earth, 900 plantings, and the installation of a massive diversion structure that incorporates a Stop Log weir.
The property was retrofitted into two regional surface infiltration basins. Combined, it treates runoff from over 1.6 million square feet of impervious area. 60 catch basins capture stormwater runoff and direct it to either the northeast or southeast basin. Both contain an outlet control structure (OCS), a diversion structure, and a headwall that leads to a rip rap apron and forebay. The northeast basin is 39,100 square feet and the southeast basin is 44,140 square feet, with a cumulative total of 1,000 feet of perforated pipe underneath the basins installed as underdrain, providing additional storage. These large basins are carefully engineered to maximize the amount of stormwater captured and treated, contributing to the amendment of Philadelphia's stormwater management problem.
Annually, approximately 15.5 million gallons of runoff are treated annually here, capturing 38.5 acres of impervious area. Over 1 million gallons of water are stored by the installed basins, managing 1 inch of stormwater per storm.
ISS’ maintenance has 45-year O&M contracts with each participating property owner to ensure the stormwater management system continues to function according to design.
