KAMAX Heat Treatment Facility

We had to reroute a “creek” as it would have run through the middle of the facility. Involvement of DEQ, and coordination with many of the local municipalities was critical as this creek passed through a number of areas. Successful completion was measured by water flow and actual count of fish at the “cutover”. All fish lived and the re-route was a success. Additionally, the facility was located adjacent to the Lapeer County Airport. Constant coordination during construction when utilizing cranes with the FAA was important due to height restrictions and limitations around the runway and taxiways.

Seeing a need for new space and a consolidation of their operation, Kamax LP., in Lapeer, MI decided to make an investment for the future. The expansion project for Kamax LP consists of two additions to their existing facility. 113,000 square feet of logistics, manufacturing, laboratory, and a two story office space. We added another 25,000 square feet of processing space to house three custom heat treatment furnaces, which were fabricated in Germany and shipped to the new facility in Michigan. This project was completed without a loss-day injury, within FAA and DEQ code compliances, and with an international owner. E&L Construction Group was recognized for construction management excellence by the Association of General Contractors when the project was awarded the Build Michigan Award.  It was also awarded the Varco-Pruden Hall of Fame, Distribution Category Award recognizing it as the top pre-engineered metal building in the distribution category in the country.
