Walter, the Father of the Carter & Carter team, brings with him
over thirty years of business experience marked by a steady
progression of management responsibilities leading to senior-level
positions at two multimillion dollar corporations. He first began as
the Director of Corporate Training for Fred’s Discount Stores in
Memphis, TN, where he eventually became the Executive Vice President
of Operations. After 18 years with Fred’s, he moved to Nashville, TN
to continue his career with Dollar General, working first as their
Vice President of Development, managing Human Resources and Corporate
Communications. Within a year, he quickly became their Senior Vice
President where he provided strategic oversight and control to the
three VP’s in charge of warehousing, distributions, and MIS. At Dollar
General, he participated in the management of the infrastructure
needed to support opening more than 500 stores per year.
In 1998, Corky moved to Auburn, AL where he purchased Sylvan Learning
Center. While operating Sylvan, he also began as acting CFO/COO for
Charter Construction Management Co. where he oversaw the restart and
completion of three multi-family construction projects. In 2008, he
and Collin transitioned Charter Construction to Carter & Carter
Construction, where he serves as CEO.
