Our Story

Who is Rhino Shield of Chicagoland?

In the exterior preservation business the inspection, preparation and application are as integral to success as the coating itself. We follow rigorous application guidelines that have been continually refined to deliver the world’s most effective exterior coating system in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

We offer our exterior renovation services (the term “exterior painting” just doesn’t do Rhino Shield justice!) throughout the entire state of Illinois with an emphasis on the Chicago Metro area.

We have successfully renovated the exteriors of homes and businesses alike in towns across Chicagoland like Northbrook, Arlington Heights, St. Charles, Naperville, Orland Park, Lake Forest, Barrington and many many more throughout Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Will, Lake and McHenry.

EPA Lead-Safe Certified

Rhino Shield of Chicagoland offers EPA lead-safe certifications and procedures. The company certificate number is NAT – 118790 -1. The EPA has put strict guidelines in place that all exterior painting companies need to follow when it comes to dealing with legacy lead paint.  If your home was built prior to 1976 we will test it and let you know whether or not lead paint is present.

The good news is that with Rhino Shield you’ll only have to deal with your lead paint issue one time vs. every 3-5 years with traditional exterior painting that just doesn’t hold up to Chicago’s brutal weather.

The History of Rhino Shield

The developers of Rhino Shield had a vision of offering a permanent exterior renovation that would stop the endless paint-peel-scrape-paint cycle. For a long time vinyl siding was the sole alternative to the expense and aggravation associated with the paint-peel-scrape-paint cycle for the exteriors of houses and businesses. After trying several other elastomeric coatings that purported to be durable and permanent but which failed miserably in just short periods of time a decision was made. They would create their own coating which would not only meet their initial expectations but with continued research, exceed them.

And so Rhino Shield was born and finally a coating was created that will not only permanently coat and seal wood but also brick, stucco, block, Masonite and other exterior surfaces such as Hardi-board.

The coating needed to be breathable, elastic, durable, and present an attractive finish in a variety of colors. Using top chemists and experts from manufacturing partners, Rhino Shield was developed.

Performance claims were literally “put to the test” by BASF and Rhino Shield passed with flying colors.

Ceramic Microspheres were formulated into Rhino Shield as the solid component, replacing cheaper, less durable mineral fillers found in common latex and oil based paints. The addition of ceramic microspheres improved protection against heat and harmful UV rays. This also reduced the thermal-conductivity of the coating which helps keeps the heat from transferring into a building in the summer, and escaping from a building in winter.
