Our Story

HELM at its core has two major characteristics. The first is a strong background in conventional civil engineering and project management. The principal members of the HELM team have 20 years of civil engineering experience and have completed numerous projects ranging from small mitigation projects to assist individual home owners to multi-phase multi-million dollar public sector projects. The key to the success in all of these projects is a focus on customer service and a commitment to quality. HELM has vast experience in managing general civil engineering projects, and has a track record for responding immediately to project needs. HELM’s highly qualified team of experienced professionals has successfully worked together for many years. As a result, HELM assures the client that we will provide the highest level of quality and service.

The second critical characteristics of HELM is the source of the firm’s name. Holistic Engineering and Land Management describes the philosophy that differentiates HELM from the broader civil engineering community. We believe that the design of land connected projects needs to recognize and embrace natural processes, therefore we propose using a holistic approach to solve problems at the root. A holistic approach recognizes that there is a dynamic relationship between multitudes of factors, chief among them are hydrology, geomorphology and ecology. Traditional civil engineering has not fully considered the crucial role ecology plays in this process and has neglected ecology in most design processes. We believe that this needs to change.
