Benson Design & Development Co. has been providing residential design for almost 2 decades from remodeling to new construction. Derrek has an extensive construction background which shows in his plans and details. Our team work’s with a very high standard of drawing, creating reasonable plans, attention to detail, and an high standard of quality.  The plans are drawn at exact framing scale, along with all our detail and sections to ensure the highest accuracy when building.

We coordinate the drawings with the Structural Engineer, Mechanical engineer and all outside consultants so everything is designed to work during construction. The Majority of construction issues will be addressed during the drawing phase through the sections and section details.We are very experienced making sure that your project meets Home Owner Association guide lines, local residential building codes and requirements specific to your project. 

Building a new home or remodeling an existing one is a big undertaking, no doubt about it. Homeowners can easily get overwhelmed with the amount of decisions involved, and are looking to the professionals involved to help guide them in making the right choices. As both a Designer and a builder, I’ve seen the gamut of nerve-racking scenarios that can be costly (or at least unsightly) if not dealt with correctly. A typically new home involves roughly 2,000 decisions large and small and a good Architect and Interior Designer will make about 1,990 of them for you. If questions are left unanswered in the construction drawings, you leave it up to the subcontractors to make the decisions, and they typically don’t have a grasp of the bigger picture that could be affected. The biggest mistake a homeowner can make is to hire a low end designer to save money. Low end designers typically are very cheap and provide the minimum plans and information to get a permit. This is a huge mistake which I have seen again and again. All those Horror stories you have herd of are usually based from a bad set of plans along with a bad Contractor. It is essential to pay the extra money for a good set of plans which explains the whole entire project in detail so the contractor can bid it with a realistic number and build it efficiently with the proper information in a timely manor. Good construction plans should have custom details and section details, specific to the design, so there is a clear understanding of how to create the Architects complete vision. This will ensure the homeowner some peace of mind that every decision has been well thought out by the professional. No one loves a good Contractor, Subcontractor or Supplier more than me, but don’t let him or her make your design decisions.
