Jose U. Hernandez served in the US Navy from 1990 to 1998. He served during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm as well as several maritime deployments spending the latter part of his enlistment training in a combat battalion unit. After serving in the military, he pursed his career in architecture and graduated in 2002 with his Bachelor of Architecture from University of Houston.
Jose worked closely with his mentors, University Professor Thomas R. Diehl Architect and Gary R. Eades Architect, where the emphasis was on high design and high end residential work. Prior to becoming a founding partner in 1 + ONE Design Build Studio, Jose was also a founding partner at H4 Architects. Jose also worked for RWS Architects with the primary focus on designing educational and institutional facilities. This experience provided the groundwork and technical expertise for large commercial projects. Through these experiences, Jose has attained the knowledge for the design, documentation, development and administration of projects. Beyond that, he has acquired a sense of the process that goes beyond the technical, which is the understanding that at the core of the architectural effort is the relationship between people and their environment.
