Our Story

Tompkins Excavating began as a lawn mowing service provider that expanded into a full-service commercial and residential excavation company that has now faithfully served clients in the Lower Hudson Valley, including Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, and Orange counties for almost 40 years.

In the late 1980's, Tompkins Excavating transitioned from landscaping into site work, and is now a Woman Owned full service excavation and site development contractor. We handle any and all tasks from tree clearing, stumping and grubbing, mass earthmoving and grading, site drainage, sewer and water, to asphalt paving and concrete curbs and sidewalks, and crushing. We currently have a field staff of approximately 40, creating four to six crews at any given time. We also own all of our trucks and equipment, and are operating with over 100 pieces of equipment to handle any job, big or small. Our projects consist of sub-division and town house developments, apartment building complexes, shopping centers, large industrial warehouses, gas stations, fire houses, and more, ranging in size from $100,000 to $5,000,000.

We use state-of-the-art GPS machine control in bull dozers and excavators, as well as GPS layout, and laser controlled bull dozers for unmatched precision and production, while saving owners money in surveying fees and lost time waiting for stake-outs.

Stacey Tompkins joined the company in 1991, and became the President and Owner in February 2013, overseeing marketing, sales, strategic planning, human resources, and organizing the company’s involvement in community-related activities and events. Stacey utilizes her business management experience to lead Tompkins Excavating in maintaining and growing the company’s reputation as an industry leader.

With her husband, Mark Tompkins, and two of their sons working to carry on the family business that is Tompkins Excavating, the company is structured and treated like an extended family, which is evidenced by the cohesive teamwork and high-quality craftsmanship dispensed into each and every project.
