Scope Of Work

Access Scaffold at Lincoln Plaza

The Lincoln Plaza Scaffold Project was located on South Street & Essex Street in the historic Leather District of Boston, MA. During the project, Lothrop Companies, Inc designed, engineered, and constructed scaffolding that provided nearly 20,000 square feet of safe work platforms for restoration work to be completed on the building's exterior. The scaffold towered over 100-feet tall surrounding four sides of the building for a little over one year. Once constructed, the scaffold served construction managers, engineers, architects, masons, steel workers, abatement contractors, and painters enabling them to perform work on the building's structural steel, exterior walls, and windows. In addition to safe access, the scaffold provided overhead protection for pedestrians, local business owners, and tenants to access the sidewalk beneath while construction took place. The project was completed successfully with zero accidents resulting in lost work days and zero injuries to workers and the general public.

One interesting facet of the project was the initial inspection requiring entry into underground vaults beneath the building structure. The inspection took Lothrop's project managers, engineers, and the client into an old passage originally designed to move coal from Essex Street into the basement of the building to fuel its boilers. Entry into the vault was required several times throughout the project for installation and removal of a shoring system to support the scaffolding above.
