Our Story

In 1957, MIT professor Dr. Harl Aldrich and Harvard graduate Jim Haley decided to open the first New England firm focused on soil and foundation engineering, today more commonly referred to as geotechnical engineering. Reflecting on the firm’s growth many years later, Harl wrote, “Jim Haley and I talked about the kind of practice we wanted to have. We were dedicated to technical excellence, to innovation in our practice, and to service to our clients. Over the years, this basic philosophy has served the company well.”

Indeed it has. Today, Haley & Aldrich’s more than 800 environmental and engineering consultants have diverse services, geographical, and industry expertise. Yet our culture is built on Harl and Jim’s focus on client service, innovation, and technical excellence. No longer a New England firm, our team today works together across all U.S. geographies, solving our clients’ most complex problems — above and below ground. And we look beyond technical challenges to the needs of stakeholders in their organizations, regulatory agencies, and communities.
