Listed on the National Register for Historic Places, the Pere Marquette is a downstate Illinois landmark which Peoria's cultural, civic, and commercial life has revolved around over the past 84 years; an essential part of Peoria’s downtown since construction in 1926. The hotel will undergo a second major renovation since its conception, and once complete, will be connected to the Marriott Courtyard hotel which is being constructed immediately adjacent. The two hotels will then be connected by way of an elevated, climate-controlled pedestrian walkway to the Peoria Civic Center. The Pere Marquette will retain 287 rooms, and the 10-story Courtyard will provide an additional 116. Restoration to the Pere Marquette will comprise "green" elements such as low-VOC paint and use of recycled material, and the new construction will strive for LEED certification. The Pere Marquette contains a George M. Harding mural and intricate original plasterwork. The building's grand staircase, main lobby, ballrooms, meeting spaces, guest rooms and more will all be renovated and updated.
