Sherman Roberts has dedicated his life to providing affordable
housing and social services to needy families and individuals.
Following graduation from Abilene High School, he earned a BBA degree
from Texas A&M University - Commerce. After serving as staff
accountant for the real estate subsidiary of a bank, he spent five
years as Director of Finance and Development for Oak Cliff Development Corporation.
In 1995, he became Executive Director for Operation Relief
Community Development Corporation. Leveraging funding
from public and private sources, during his 11 year tenure, he
planned, developed and implemented a variety of single and
multi-family housing projects that included:
• $21.6 million tax credit renovation and restoration of a
16-story structure to provide 156 units of elderly housing (80%
reserved for low income persons) with community room, movie theater
and swimming pool with exercise, recreation, and computer facilities
and on-site social services.
• $8.195 million renovation of 300
unit multi-family buildings on a 18.5 acre site that included a
variety of resident services and a learning center
• $1.795
million tax credit new construction of 30 units for senior citizen
Since being named president and CEO of City Wide Community
Development Corporation in 2006, he has raised in excess of $30
million in operating and development funding. Currently, City Wide CDC
owns and operates a 12 unit apartment complex in East Dallas that
provides housing and supportive services to homeless seniors and is
completing construction of 13 single family homes in the Village of
Runyon Springs.
The Lancaster Urban Village project, now under construction, is
part of an overall effort to revitalize the Lancaster Corridor. In
addition to Lancaster Urban Village, City Wide CDC plans additional
housing for homeless women and veterans, medium density, mixed use
development with a strong urban streetscape.
