For John, construction is as much a calling as it is a career. “I’ve been in construction pretty much my whole life,” John says. “I love creating, building and working with teams—anything an architect can design I can build.”
Renovating elementary schools throughout Austin, building fire stations for the City of San Antonio, and finishing-out stores in malls across the United States are just a few of the major projects John has undertaken over the past three decades.
With his years of experience in commercial construction and a strong relationship with GFC since 2004, John is a huge asset to GFC General Contracting.
John and Steve Whitener, GFC’s CFO, have been acquainted with each other since 1998, through flooring vendors they both knew well. “The reason we hooked up in 2004 was largely due to Gomez’s excellent financial, bonding capabilities and their diversity. And they wanted to grow their General Contracting business and I knew I could help them get there,” says John.
Since he started working with GFC, his primary focus has been on AAFES new construction and renovation throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. These projects include BX Mall and fast-food chain renovations and shoppettes.
While his work with GFC keeps him busy and on the road many weeks a year, John still finds time to enjoy his other passion—golf—locally in San Antonio and throughout the country in Arizona, Puerto Rico and Hawaii.
