Scope Of Work
The newly-formed University of Texas Rio Grande Valley campus embarked three major construction projects to develop a world-class healthcare, research, and engineering program. The university hired Vaughn to build a cutting-edge research facility, the second of three buildings which Vaughn Construction was hired to build for the new campus.
Designed to attract top scientists and researchers to the Rio Grande Valley, the new four-story science building supports various STEM disciplines, including biology, physics, chemistry, math, pre-med and environmental studies. It includes flexible, technology-driven instructional space, research laboratories and collaboration spaces that are adaptable to new and future learning realities, methodologies, pedagogies, and are designed to serve students at two campuses. The first floor consolidates the major research instrumentation on campus into a teaching core. The building’s technology supports distance learning to extend services to its sister campus in Brownsville.
