Celebrity chef Daniel Boulud’s DBGB Kitchen and Bar was introduced to Downtown DC as part of the new mixed-use CityCenter development. rand* built out the restaurant amid the construction of several other tenant spaces throughout the development. Located on the concourse level at the H Street entrance, DBGB features a similar design to its New York City counterpart, but with distinct differences that make it unique to the District. The two-story restaurant features a 75-seat dining area, a full-service kitchen, a front full-service bar and two private dining areas upstairs. DBGB’s decor, such as the custom millwork bookshelves displaying artisan plates accented with artwork done by celebrity chefs, play to the French-American motif of the menu. The glass storefront windows allow natural light to fill the space and are etched with food-related quotes.

The mechanical work required on the job was extensive due to the introduction of a full-service kitchen to the space. The floors are raised slabs that allow for proper drainage throughout the entire space, which caused an issue for laying the herringbone pattern tile. The project team overcame such challenges by communicating daily with the design team and the engineers, while maintaining complete control of the project schedule and budget. This project was completed in time for the highly publicized grand opening and exceeded the expectations of the client, who is proud to be a new culinary agent to the District.
