Scope Of Work
Restoration and stabilization of the former Duluth Winnipeg Pacific railroad bridge over Stewart Creek included replacement of deteriorated decking with modern wood decking, restoration of flood damaged concrete abutments, and installation of cable railings for fall protection. We provided the stainless steel cable railings and galvanized posts.
First challenge after bidding the project was to identify, cut and weld all different size plates for mounting to wood bridge deck outside rail for value engineering, to make concept to work. This was mainly due to engineering of bridge changed in design and mounting of cable railing post attachment details.
Another challenge the engineer made mistake on length of bridge, this mistake affected to 2’ shorter than the contract drawings, we had to re make 22 cable sections with new measurement lengths, and turn them and send to project site to keep schedule.
The city of Duluth and its residences are very happy with the look and function.
